Bard Early College New Orleans (BECNO), a partnership between Bard College and the Louisiana Department of Education, invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in Humanities teaching Greek Mythology for this Spring semester starting January 2026.
Job Description Bard Early College in New Orleans engages bright, intellectually curious students through a tuition‑free, immersive liberal arts curriculum offered to students in the last two years of high school. By promoting authentic and supportive undergraduate opportunities, Bard Early College faculty and staff prepare students of all academic backgrounds for further college success. Students will complete a high school diploma alongside an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College. Our academic program emphasizes student‑led learning in small seminar‑style classes, team‑based intentional support, and a culture of collaborative pedagogical development for teachers.
The role involves teaching a 3‑credit course in Greek Mythology, which will meet three times a week. The Spring semester runs from January 2 through May 10, 2026. Candidates are required to attend Faculty and Staff Orientation on January 2.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver engaging, participatory pedagogy for a high‑school‑aged cohort of college‑ready students.
Incorporate interdisciplinary connections and promote social‑justice‑oriented, equity‑focused curricula.
Facilitate small‑seminar‑style discussions and scaffold student‑led learning.
Maintain accurate course records, assessments, and communication with department leadership.
Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. in literature, classics, or related field, or ABD status.
Expertise in Greek mythology (highly encouraged) with experience in Roman, Nordic, or Egyptian mythology considered a plus.
Proficiency with Google Suite and Canvas.
Prior teaching experience with high‑school or college‑aged students preferred.
Compensation $4,500 for the 3‑credit Humanities course.
