Barrymore Film Center (BFC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 educational and cultural institution located in Fort Lee, NJ, the birthplace of American cinema. Dedicated to preserving film history and fostering the future of visual storytelling, BFC offers diverse programming, including screenings, festivals, educational workshops, and live performing arts. We’re seeking a Part-Time Publicity/Digital Content Manager who’s sharp, energetic, and driven to get results. This role calls for someone who moves fast, spots the story angle quickly, and knows how to turn programs and events into buzzworthy moments. The ideal candidate is highly organized, fearless about outreach, and has a marketer’s instinct for what will grab attention and drive engagement - someone who thrives on deadlines, loves systems, and has a sharp eye for detail.
Reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with the Graphic Designer, this person ensures that BFC’s brand and programs are visible, consistent, and engaging across all media. This is an in-person role in Fort Lee, NJ, 25 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities Marketing & Publicity
Develop and manage the annual marketing and communications calendar and budget
Write and distribute press releases, media alerts and promotional copy that capture attention
Place ads and coordinate with media outlets and partners and track campaign performance
Secure coverage for screenings, festivals, and events through proactive media outreach
Identify and pursue publicity opportunities from community boards to regional press
Craft smart, timely promotions and ads that capture the hook of each program
Digital & Social Media
Manage day-to-day posting and scheduling across social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Blue Sky, Tik-Tok) using Meta Business Suite, Buffer, and similar tools
Upload and manage visuals for in-house digital screens using NoviSign, working from assets provided by the Graphic Designer
Cover events live when appropriate by posting photos, video clips, and quick-turn content.
Track analytics and trends to improve engagement and reach
Website & Email
Maintain and update Squarespace website, including but not limited to the screening schedule, ticket purchase links, news stories, and special events and series
Create and send eblasts and newsletters using Mailchimp, ensuring clear calls to action and consistent branding
Institutional Communications
Craft compelling and consistent messaging (visually and stylistically) for all programming and organizational efforts
Coordinate with Graphic Designer for flyers, posters, ads, and other marketing collateral
Promote BFC’s “why” stories and highlight impact through compelling, consistent messaging
Work with the Board Communications Committee to plan communications strategy
Prepare periodic reports, analytics, and recommendations for improvement Track engagement, platform analytics, trends, and emerging platforms to optimize content, reach, and media opportunities
Other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
Exceptionally organized, quick, and detail-focused - able to juggle multiple projects .
A natural promoter who understands timing, hooks, and storytelling.
Confident reaching out to press, securing coverage, and closing publicity opportunities.
Tech-savvy and adaptable - comfortable learning new platforms quickly. Experience with Squarespace, Meta Business Suite, Buffer, Mailchimp, NoviSign is a plus.
Able to write clearly and effectively across formats from ad copy to press releases to social media posts.
A quick thinker and self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy arts environment.
Passionate about culture and connecting audiences to great experiences.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum two years experience in public relations, marketing, or nonprofit communications Excellent grammar, syntax, writing, and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Google Workspace, Mailchimp, website CMS (Squarespace preferred), and social media platforms
Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and highly organized
Knowledge of and/or interest in film, arts, and culture a plus
Familiarity with the area’s media and cultural landscape preferred
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Some evening and weekend availability required for programs and special events
