Join to apply for the User Experience Engineer role at Maxima

Maxima is the first agentic AI platform for enterprise accounting, purpose built to deliver SOX compliant, real‑time close. Our founders have experience building month‑end close systems at leading tech companies, and we have raised the largest seed in the accounting space with backing from prominent venture firms and finance leaders.

Role Overview

We are looking for a UX Engineer who will help define the next generation of enterprise software for AI and accounting. You will bridge the gap between design and engineering, building the design system and UI foundations that power how controllers, accountants, and auditors interact with autonomous agents. This is not a standard front‑end development role; you will focus on design‑to‑code systems — creating the infrastructure, tokens, and component libraries that make our AI‑driven workflows feel transparent, controllable, and trustworthy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Maxima’s design system, from tokens and components to documentation and accessibility standards.
  • Partner with engineers to ensure every surface — from journal automation to anomaly detection — adheres to shared interaction and visual patterns.
  • Collaborate with designers to prototype and implement UI patterns that help users inspect, override, and trust agent‑driven actions.
  • Ensure components are responsive, accessible, and optimized for the precision and clarity required in enterprise accounting.
  • Connect design tools like Figma to our engineering workflows, streamlining design handoff, prototyping, and documentation in Storybook.
  • Improve component performance, reusability, and developer experience to enhance front‑end quality.
  • Participate in design critiques, code reviews, and cross‑functional meetings to maintain alignment between visual design and product implementation.

Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of experience in UX engineering or design‑system‑focused front‑end roles.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining scalable design systems or component libraries for complex web applications.
  • Understanding of accessibility (WCAG 2.2 / Section 508) and ability to bake it into every component by default.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma and how to translate design tokens into code.
  • Experience with Storybook, monorepos, or component publishing workflows.
  • Strong eye for detail, usability, and design fidelity, especially in data‑rich enterprise interfaces.
  • Curiosity about AI, automation, and how intelligent systems can enhance trust and efficiency in financial operations.

Why Join Us

  • Build the design foundations for the first AI‑native enterprise accounting platform.
  • Be a core part of a mission‑driven startup looking to transform accounting processes.
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment where your decisions directly impact product direction and company growth.
  • Collaborate with top‑tier designers and engineers in an environment that values precision, craft, and innovation.
  • Competitive salary, equity, and benefits (401(k), unlimited PTO).

Join us in revolutionizing accounting month‑end close and making accounting operations more efficient for businesses everywhere.
