Senior PM Reporter – CNN Report, research and write everything from breaking news briefs to fully formed news features. We’re seeking a seasoned journalist with expertise covering courts and complex legal decisions — but who can just as capably and enthusiastically cover general news for a national audience. Role Accountabilities Write clearly and contextually, with elevation and verve; our writing should be engaging, declarative and accessible, even du ring breaking news. Write within a range of formats, from breaking news briefs to richly told narratives and smart explainers that help readers connect the dots. Identify the most significant headlines within news developments; focus on the framing. Find and develop sources while covering major stories; build source relationships over time on ongoing stories. Demonstrate a sense of urgency in reporting breaking news and delivering real-time updates. Add sweep to straight news coverage. Shape sharp, discrete angles and ideas to advance storylines; think about where the story is going — and help CNN’s coverage get there. Contribute story ideas in the daily news and continuing coverage space. Monitor the competitive landscape and multiple sources for news developments. Work closely with other CNN journalists on collaborative, comprehensive and contextualized news coverage. Serve as a line editor if needed, providing feedback to colleagues to enhance the quality of their work. May be deployed on field assignments to enhance breaking news coverage or pursue distinctive storylines. Qualifications & Experience Willingness to work nights: This is an evening role, with a schedule that may include Sundays. Experience covering the courts and complex legal issues. Working knowledge of a wide variety of domestic news topics. Experience framing news coverage for a national audience. At least 5 years of progressively complex editorial experience. Experience reporting and writing under deadline pressure. A college degree or equivalent industry experience. Warner Bros.
