We are looking for a Digital News Editor for BTPM NPR.
What You'll Be Doing
The Digital News Editor oversees the daily editorial presentation of BTPM NPR across digital platforms. The DNE coordinates and reviews reporters' digital stories, optimizes them for distribution, amplifies and enhances their work with compelling headlines, copy, infographics, video, etc. The DNE strategizes to expand the creation and engagement of high‑quality, bi‑national, multi‑platform digital news content tailored to each platform's audience. This position can be hybrid – a blend of remote and in‑office work. In summary, the role includes:
Oversee the rapid production, updating and publication of breaking news stories online; direct the content flow, tone and pacing of live blogs/pages for major stories and developing events, ensuring continuous, timely and accurate coverage
Strategically curate bi‑national BTPM NPR, NPR, AP and NYPNN news content across BTPM.org, apps and social platforms
Create and execute the strategy for all bi‑national breaking news push alerts and mobile notifications
Regularly identify and produce original news content with BTPM NPR's digital audience in mind, including quick‑turn responsive stories, videos, photo galleries and infographics
Optimize stories for the web by writing compelling headlines, integrating multimedia elements (photos, videos, graphics), and structuring the content for online readability and accessibility
Implement SEO best practices, including using relevant keywords in headlines and body text, to maximize search engine visibility and drive organic traffic to the website
Track and analyze web traffic, content performance metrics (pageviews, engagement time, click‑through rates, etc.), and use this data to inform future editorial decisions and content strategy
Manage the promotion and distribution of published news content across various social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Bluesky and other platforms, as appropriate), including tailoring content and headlines for each channel to maximize audience reach and engagement
Engage with online users, and moderate comments and messages according to BTPM best practices and editorial guidelines
Mentor and provide constructive guidance to reporters and producers on social media best practices, multimedia integration and digital storytelling techniques to continuously elevate the quality of journalism, and increase audience reach and engagement
Collaborate with BTPM digital team to create and promote BTPM original content across digital platforms in compliance with BTPM editorial standards
Work with BTPM NPR management to develop and maintain a digital style guide as a training resource for staff
What You'll Need
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, media studies or related field
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant digital news editing experience, working with various content management systems (e.g. Grove, WordPress, etc.), video production, audio recording, photo editing and digital content editing systems
Superb writing and editing skills; detail‑oriented with a meticulous eye for accuracy and understanding of what makes for effective storytelling; strong knowledge of AP Style
Expertise in promoting content and engaging audiences through various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, etc.
Expert command of leading web analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Chartbeat), with the skill to generate comprehensive reports and extract actionable audience insights
Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and project management software (e.g. Asana)
Strong news judgment and project management skills including prioritization and meeting deadlines
Well‑developed interpersonal and collaboration skills working with various teams
Familiarity with and a commitment to the mission of public media, sharing diverse perspectives and reaching underserved communities through in‑depth journalism
Current, valid driver's license

Salary and Benefits
This is a full‑time, non‑exempt hourly position. Hours of work are based on operational need; typically, Monday through Friday, mid‑shift availability required. Starting pay will be based on education, experience and interview. Starting range: $23.38 to $29.23/hr.
