Visual Arts School Education Coordinator
This full‑time position manages the day‑to‑day operations of Goode Family Visual Arts School (VAS) including class, camp, and Open Studio programs, and is responsible for the general care of the facility. Reporting to the Curator of Education and Contemporary Art Exhibitions at The Hermitage Museum, the Coordinator develops and implements art activities for school‑aged children as part of the museum’s tour and public programs.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operation of the Visual Arts School including all studio spaces, digital lab, and ceramics program.
Serve as the first point of contact for instructors, students, and parents.
Collaborate with the Curator of Education and Contemporary Art Exhibitions for program development and implementation.
Create and lead art activities at museum events, workshops, and camps.
Plan and lead educational art activities for school‑age children in conjunction with the museum’s tour program.
Act as a liaison to the Education and Public Programs Committee.
Provide general support to all Hermitage events and programs.
Establish and maintain a strong studio arts community.
Represent the Hermitage at local cultural and educational events to promote VAS classes and programs.
Show willingness to try new ways of reaching the public through appealing supportive programs while always focusing on the Hermitage mission.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related field. Outstanding verbal and communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and comfort working with people from all backgrounds. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, ability to anticipate and articulate program needs, and work independently. Must be extremely dependable and punctual. Excellent computer skills including expertise in email and Microsoft Office. Experience working in youth‑based programs and art studios. Experience in a ceramics studio and firing kilns preferred. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time. Must be 18 or older with a valid Virginia driver’s license.
Type: Full Time – benefits include PTO, health insurance, and 401(k) plan with employer matching.
Salary range: $40,000 – $45,000.
