Salary range: $68,247–$72,404. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment.

Position Description
The Department of Literature within the School of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We invite applications for Temporary Lecturer(s) in Creative Writing for the 2025/26 academic year. The successful applicant(s) will have expertise in teaching multiple disciplines and genres of creative writing, potentially including Fiction Writing, Poetry Writing, Creative Nonfiction Writing, Experimental Writing, Screenwriting, and Speculative Fiction Writing.
Appointments will be part‑time (1–2 classes per quarter), from one quarter up to one year in duration.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
- hold an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing
- demonstrated outstanding teaching experience (at least 2 years teaching at the College level) in at least three of the following genres/areas: Fiction Writing, Poetry Writing, Creative Nonfiction Writing, Experimental Writing, Screenwriting, and Speculative Fiction Writing.
- Publications in Peer‑Reviewed Journals
Preferred qualifications:
- Demonstrated outstanding teaching experience in more than three of the following genres/areas: Fiction Writing, Poetry Writing, Creative Nonfiction Writing, Experimental Writing, Screenwriting, and Speculative Fiction Writing.
- One or more books in the above genres
