$70,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr

Our focus will also go well beyond hard‑hitting news and iconoclastic opinion. The nationally recognized Page Six will bring its sassy and brassy attitude directly to the entertainment capital of the world. The California Post Sports department will deliver muscular coverage of the biggest teams in town, from the locker room to the front office. Our Tech team will reveal the latest innovators and innovations that will shape the nation’s future.

As part of our bold expansion into Los Angeles, the California Post is seeking a full‑time Education Reporter with expertise in California’s education landscape. The ideal candidate has a proven track record covering K–12, is well‑sourced across districts and institutions, and delivers sharp, investigative, and analytical reporting.

Responsibilities

• Report and write multiple clear, concise, accurate stories per day in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
• Cover education issues across California, including statewide policy, district‑level developments, higher education, and major national trends with California impact.
• Break exclusive stories and own a competitive, high‑interest beat.
• Develop and maintain strong sources within school districts, universities, government agencies, teacher unions, parent groups, and policy organizations.
• Produce investigative and analytical pieces that go beyond daily news.
• Collaborate with editors, photographers, and video teams to develop engaging multimedia storytelling.
• Utilize WordPress, SEO best practices, and audience insights to maximize reach and engagement.
• Appear on camera for video explainers, interviews, or on‑ground coverage when needed.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of education reporting or beat reporting experience, ideally within a major, breaking‑news environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of California’s education system, key players, and emerging issues.
• Strong source network or the ability to quickly build one.
• Excellent writing, reporting, investigative, and analytical skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
• Working knowledge of WordPress, SEO, and social media best practices.
• On‑camera experience or comfort with video storytelling preferred.
• Must be flexible to travel for coverage if/when needed.

Note: This role is expected to work on‑site five days a week, except when performing fieldwork.
