Job Description

NBC Connecticut is looking for a creative and driven journalist to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about storytelling and skilled at collaborating with others to produce engaging content across all platforms. We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and who understands social media strategy, has a strong news sense, and knows how to identify standout video content. If you can quickly find the best video of the day, shape it for digital audiences, and get it in front of viewers fast—we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate daily content to highlight strong pieces ideal for social media distribution.
  • Actively participate in the daily editorial meetings to stay aligned with newsroom priorities.
  • Partner closely with the dayside Executive Producer and Director of Multiplatform Content to ensure alignment across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with our journalists to maximize content creation on multiple platforms.
  • Provide guidance to the newsroom staff, including on-air talent, to strengthen digital storytelling.
  • Pitch compelling social stories and segments that align with NBC Connecticut’s news strategy.
  • Serve as the primary resource for social media onboarding.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-deadline driven environment while maintaining high standards.
  • Develop, curate, and manage published content across various social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a newsroom or similar setting.
  • 1-3 years of experience using editing software such as Adobe Premiere
  • Minimum1 year experience with social editing tools, such as CapCut and Instagram Edits
  • 1-3 years experience in analytics and reporting social media statistics

Desired Characteristics

  • Degree in Journalism or a specialization in multi-media
  • Knowledge of trending stories on social platforms using analytics and SEO functions
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A candidate who will play an active role in the editorial process
  • Pioneering spirit with a desire and urgency to learn emerging technologies and invest the future.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and overnights.
  • Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift.
  • Must be willing to work at the station in West Hartford, CT.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal designated worksite.
