SUMMARY:

The Senior Director, Health Promotion and Navigation Services is responsible for leading and managing health education, promotion, and navigation initiatives. Oversee all components of program operations and engage in cross‑geography and functional collaboration to promote partnership across YWCA programs through a health equity framework and trauma‑informed practices.

COLLABORATES WITH:

Actively collaborates with YWCA Executive Leadership, Safety and Wellness team members, community partners and influencers, and other stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cultivates YWCA’s internal health equity and promotion Community of Practice. Leads community health initiatives that address community health challenges and their intersection with social determinants of health. Develops and executes community health initiatives such as health screenings, health education, and care navigation that increase personal health efficacy. Through a health equity framework, provides information, knowledge, skills, and healthcare systems navigation assistance to strengthen informed healthcare decisions and access, positioning individuals and households to achieve optimal health and well‑being. Oversees all aspects of program operations while collaborating across departments, divisions, geographies, and external partners to integrate trauma‑informed practices and primary prevention strategies.

Program Development and Operations:

Co‑creates and cultivates the YWCA’s internal health equity and promotion Community of Practice, fostering a culture of collaboration and shared resources. Leads and manages community health initiatives targeting breast, diabetes, hypertension, colon, and emotional health, and their intersections with social determinants of health. Leads program content development, establishes partnerships, and regularly evaluates and refines programs based on community feedback and outcome data for long‑term sustainability.

Community Engagement and Mobilization:

Develops and implements strategies to make primary health prevention and community mobilization core organizational strengths. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with local governments, healthcare providers, nonprofits, and community groups. Increases community participation by developing and activating community outreach and educational events that educate, entertain, and empower diverse audiences. Creates awareness within target communities about primary health prevention programs and other YWCA programs/services.

Talent Management & Development:

Ensures recruitment, onboarding, coaching, professional development, evaluation, and retention of highly qualified staff, interns, and volunteers. Instills accountability among team members by modeling effective oversight of program performance, improving retention and program effectiveness. Cultivates a culture that encourages reflection, psychological safety, and continuous learning.

Fiscal Responsibility and Resource Development:

Co‑creates and manages program budgets with Division leaders, tracking revenue, expenses, and contract deliverables for fiscal and program stability. Works with Finance to analyze monthly budget reports and implement cost‑savings or growth measures. Collaborates with Strategic Engagement staff to explore and prepare potential funding opportunities and fosters stewardship by assisting with stakeholder recognition and engagement.

Professional Development:

Completes ongoing continuing education and training required by YWCA and funders. Obtains and maintains certification as a Navigator – Breast Advocate and IL Community Health Worker within one year of hire, if not already certified.

NON‑ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

May work with, or assist in, the supervision of volunteers. Assists with planning special programs such as YWCA Week without Violence, Leader Luncheon, and other events.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

Other duties outside the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task, or other assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Training Required:

Completion of Breast Health Navigator – Breast Advocate and IL Community Health Worker within one year of hire, if not already certified. Complete ongoing continuing education and training requirements set by YWCA and funders.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in public health, community health, healthcare administration, or related fields with three years of progressive leadership experience.

Minimum of two years’ experience managing government contracts, private grants, fees, and deliverable‑based programs, including budgeting compliance, monitoring, and reporting.

Previous experience in community health initiatives, demonstrating deep understanding of public health principles, including social determinants of health, health equity, and preventive health strategies.

Experience communicating and effectively interacting with people across cultures, abilities, identities, genders, ethnicities, and race.

Strong speaking, writing, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.

Demonstrated experience with performance measurement across multiple platforms. Intermediate level of competence in MS Office, Outlook, and databases.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment includes shared office spaces and sites where children and adults are present. The noise level is usually moderate. Movement requirements include walking, stooping, or kneeling. There may be a need to reach or lift objects such as packages or supplies. Communication needs include seeing, hearing, and speaking. While in the office, there will be periods of sitting, holding a telephone, and using computers. Senior Director must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and Illinois. Requires regular travel to YWCA locations in Chicago, DuPage County, South Cook County, and Lake County. Knowledge of Lake County and community organizations is highly preferred. Reasonable accommodation will be provided for an incumbent to meet the position’s essential responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, 8:30 am–4:30 pm. The position may require work on some evenings and weekends. Schedule can vary depending on the agency’s needs.
