Sr Thin Film Process and Applications Engineer
Base pay range
$89,000.00/yr - $105,000.00/yr
Job Description Maintenance and programming of advanced manufacturing equipment in a high‑tech vacuum and thin‑film deposition environment. This role requires a broad skill set to manage complex machinery through the entire lifecycle of our process equipment from design through replacement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, specifically with vacuum systems or semiconductor equipment preferred.
Strong proficiency in troubleshooting, reading and interpreting electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
Experience with a range of electrical components, from low‑power logic circuits and sensor technology to high‑power three‑phase power supplies.
Skills
LabVIEW proficiency
Strong programming skills in LabVIEW is a significant advantage.
Strong understanding of LabVIEW development strategies and hardware integration and control systems.
Additional technical skills
Familiarity with communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, RS‑232/485) for device integration and networking.
Experience in programming and interfacing various manufacturing systems (e.g., Oracle with LabVIEW or Python).
Responsibilities
Safety
Ensure all equipment adheres to safety standards (OSHA, NEC) and implement robust electrical safety protocols for high‑voltage applications.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Maintenance & Repair
Troubleshoot and repair existing equipment, spanning low‑voltage DC circuits, HMI, sensor interfaces, and computer systems to AC line voltage and high‑voltage, three‑phase power supplies.
Conduct preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
Programming & Control Systems
Develop and maintain software for equipment control and automation.
Design, develop, and debug software applications for control/automation of test and measurement equipment using LabVIEW.
Utilize Python and C++ as needed.
Preferred experience with National Instruments hardware systems (DAQmx, cRIO, cDAQ, or PXI).
Develop PLC programming and HMI applications for automated processes.
Write software/firmware for microcontrollers and computer interfaces to manage process parameters, logging, and safety interlocks.
Use AI to enhance systems, reduce downtime, and analyze preventive maintenance data trends.
Technical Expertise
Knowledge of vacuum technology systems, including pumps, gauges, and mass flow controllers, and thin‑film deposition principles (PVD/CVD).
Equipment Design & Development
Design and build new electrical systems for bespoke manufacturing equipment.
Develop detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions for new and modified equipment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in a demanding manufacturing environment, including cleanroom settings.
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in tight spaces to access equipment components.
Quality And Environmental Responsibilities Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of ISO 9000, 9001, 14001, and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
