Position Summary As Design Director of Denim, you will develop design and trend strategies for Walmart’s private brands, ensuring alignment with the Walmart Apparel SBU merchandising goals. The role requires defining seasonal fashion direction, building a winning brand aesthetic, and collaborating cross‑functionally with product development, sourcing, marketing, and merchandising teams.
Key Responsibilities
Build and execute private brand design strategy, supporting long‑term business plans and strategic programs.
Develop and maintain a winning brand aesthetic and DNA guardrails.
Analyze market and customer behavior, industry trends, and the macro environment to inform design decisions.
Lead the creative vision, product concepts, silhouettes, fabrics, and materials, translating vision into a commercial collection.
Collaborate with Product Development and Sourcing to manage supplier relationships.
Partner with Marketing and Brand Services to ensure integrated brand experience across packaging and promotion.
Align brand collections with other business unit strategies, such as operations, replenishment, and marketing.
Develop a talent strategy with People Partners, fostering associate growth and a high‑performance culture.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or related field.
10+ years of apparel design experience with deep expertise in denim.
Proven leadership experience managing design teams.
Strong understanding of trend, proportion, fabric and wash development.
Excellent communication, presentation, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Experience with global sourcing and vendor networks.
Ability to balance creativity with business objectives in a high‑volume retail environment.
Portfolio demonstrating denim design expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience driving brand identity and innovation.
Strong business acumen and ability to influence product strategy.
Track record of building and scaling design teams.
