As the primary communications business partner to the Government and Regulatory Affairs team, this role is accountable for all aspects of strategic communications that advance NRG’s policy, advocacy and regulatory objectives. The Director will shape messaging that strengthens NRG’s reputation with policymakers, regulators and key stakeholders, drives understanding of market leadership and business strategy, and fosters alignment across audiences.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy in support of federal, state and local policy and advocacy goals. Ensure narratives consistently position the business as a market leader and trusted partner.

Provide strategic counsel and hands‑on support. Shape speeches, presentations, media engagements and stakeholder communications that reinforce company leadership, visibility, and credibility.

Translate complex market and policy topics into clear, compelling stories for policymakers, media and the public.

Partner closely with leaders to deliver consistent, coordinated messaging. Build bridges between corporate functions and business‑unit priorities.

Lead communications that connect diverse, geographically dispersed stakeholders to company strategy and messaging.

Deliver timely, transparent and confident messaging that preserves trust and confidence.

Manage, mentor and develop a communications team and agency partners. Foster a high standard of creativity, accountability and operational excellence.

Qualifications

8 or more years of progressive experience in corporate communications or public affairs, ideally within a complex, matrixed or global organization.

Experience or understanding of energy markets, climate policy or regulated industries.

Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic partner to senior executives, with a proven track record of building alignment and influence at the executive level.

Exceptional writing, storytelling and message‑development skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and tailor communications for diverse audiences.

Experience leading communications during periods of organizational change, transformation or crisis, with the ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and impact.

Strong understanding of communication channels, digital platforms and analytics, with the ability to measure effectiveness and adjust strategies based on insights.

Proven experience leading and developing high‑performing teams and managing agency partners, with a focus on accountability.

Business acumen and strategic thinking skills that connect communications to enterprise priorities, employee engagement and brand reputation.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
