Position Summary Information Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Marketing or MBA is required.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required) – the department is especially interested in candidates with 10‑15 years of relevant industry and professional experience and teaching interest in one or more of the following areas – General Marketing and Supply Chain Management.

Marketing and Supply Chain Management is currently the second largest department (in terms of undergraduate seeking students) among the six departments within the John A. Walker College of Business.
Undergraduate business students in the Flight Path Program can earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree with a major in Marketing or Supply Chain Management.
The Marketing and Supply Chain Management Department consists of 17 tenured/tenure track, 5 special faculty, 4 Practitioner in Residence, and 3 adjunct faculty members.
The Walker College of Business is one of the largest public business schools for undergraduate students in the University of North Carolina system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management of the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University invites applications for a non‑tenure track, eleven‑month Practitioner in‑Residence full‑time position beginning Spring of 2026.
This position will primarily serve Appalachian State’s
Flight Path program .
The Practitioner in Residence will teach 10 course sections per year in marketing and/or supply chain management during the 11‑month contract.
The 11‑month contract is broken into the following mini semesters (2 mini semesters = 1 semester):
Fall 1, two sections.
Fall 2, two sections.
Spring 1, two sections.
Spring 2, two sections.
Summer, two sections.
All class sections are to be taught asynchronously, online, for 8 weeks each.

Physical Demands of Position To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

Posting Details Information Proposed Date of Hire: 01/05/2026
Suggested Salary Range: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
ABD Consideration: N/A – ABD is not applicable for this position.

ABD with reduction in rank and salary:
ABD will be considered for this position.
Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire.
If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one‑year fixed‑term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor.
The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full‑time instructors in the same department.
However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one‑year fixed‑term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration:
Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position.
Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
