Travel: Approximately 50% required within and outside the continental United States.
Work Schedule: Monday through Saturday, 10 hours a day (as needed).
Responsibilities
Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for interior communications.
Maintain and repair electrical systems on marine vessels.
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic equipment on board vessels and in shipyard facilities.
Apply basic and advanced technical knowledge to solve routine problems by interpreting manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents.
Plan work sequences, select tools and instruments, and ensure compliance with accepted practices.
Work under immediate supervision, receiving guidance from a supervisor or higher‑level technician.
Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment and structures for fleet modernization on U.S. Navy surface ships.
Lay out, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, or fiber optic on U.S. Navy vessels.
Read and interpret schematics and blueprints; work from engineering sketches, charts, work orders, technical documents, test documents, reports, and trip reports.
Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical equipment and cables; diagnose equipment to eliminate problems efficiently.
Remove and install cables found overhead, along bulkheads, or under the deck.
Repair and replace cables/connectors.
Apply production process knowledge to complete non‑routine installation tasks according to quality and safety procedures.
Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
Maintain effective communication with supervisors and managers.
Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cable, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels.
Complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections for existing and new equipment.
Qualifications
Must have a DoD Secret clearance.
High school diploma, GED, or industrial/trade school certificate.
3–5 years of experience maintaining and repairing electrical systems on U.S. Navy vessels, U.S. Coast Guard vessels, MSC or maritime vessels, and shipboard HM&E systems.
Familiarity with Interior Communications (IC) systems: MC, HYDRA, IVN, IVCN, SATCC, SIWCS.
Ability to access government installations via Biometric Defense Identification System (DBIS) credential.
Capacity to work overtime and weekends upon managerial request.
Willingness to travel outside the Suffolk, VA area as required.
Prior experience with fiber optic cables and multi‑pin connectors.
Ownership or possession of trade‑specific hand tools.
Effective team communication skills.
Knowledge of NSI 009-73 requirements: inspection, testing, installation, removal, and repair of shipboard electrical cabling and electronic equipment; cable installations; MCT, MCP, stuffing tube operations; bonding and grounding; air testing of penetrations; electrical troubleshooting with multimeters and megohmmeters.
Experience assisting with troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical distribution systems and associated equipment and cabling.
Experience with cable removal and installation, including proper methods for opening and securing various types of cable penetrations.
Ability to work under instruction to remove, install, and modify electrical cable, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels.
Familiarity with reading electrical drawings and schematics.
Familiarity with proper and safe use of multimeters and megohmmeters.
Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard items.
Preferred Qualifications
Current NAVSEA Multipin Connector Certifications (NSI 009-73).
Current NAVSEA Fiber Optic certification (NSI 009-123).
NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications.
Graduated from or completed a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program.
Active DoD Secret clearance.
OSHA 10 Maritime certification.
Microsoft Office knowledge.
Physical Demands
Must lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes—no less than 30 lbs.
Work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
Perform duties involving high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
May be required to wear a respirator.
Approximately 50% travel required within and outside the continental United States.
