Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Scenic Design
Department Overview At California State University, Fresno, Theatre and Dance students work side‑by‑side with faculty and staff to create exciting and dynamic productions. Each student receives individualized attention and learns to work well under pressure as part of a team.
Position Summary The successful candidate will be required to:
Teach courses in scenic design, theatre crafts, graphics, computer‑aided design, and supervise student designers.
Fulfill specific assignments that depend on departmental needs.
Possibly teach in a distance‑education mode.
Possibly design scenery for departmental shows.
Develop web‑enhanced and/or web‑based instruction.
Qualified candidates may teach undergraduate courses such as Drama 34, 115, 134A, 157, 180A, and 189 or other classes identified as needed to fulfill student educational goals.
Instructor Responsibilities Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system‑wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Instructors prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional Appointment Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the Faculty Association. Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
Compensation Commensurate by qualifications and experience within the salary range established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358). Temporary faculty with a Master’s degree receive $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Temporary faculty with a terminal degree receive $6,221–$13,224 per month when teaching full time.
Anticipated Semester The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. Appointments are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice.
Fall 2025: August 18 2025 – December 22 2025
Spring 2026: January 15 2026 – May 22 2026
Required Qualifications Education: A Master’s degree, earned doctorate (Ph.D.), or MFA in Theatre/Drama with an emphasis in scenic design or a closely related field.
Experience

Experience in scenic design and construction.
Preferred Qualifications
Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
