Job Summary We’re looking for a communications specialist with strong editorial background and proven ability to craft clear and engaging messaging. The ideal candidate will use writing skills and visual and audio storytelling techniques to bring Nationwide’s story to life for our associates.

Location & Schedule This hybrid position is based in Columbus, OH. Candidates near a Nationwide campus will collaborate in the office 2 days per week and enjoy the flexibility of remote work the remaining days. Current Nationwide Remote Associates will also be considered.

Essential Job Functions

Write and edit digital associate communications (email, intranet pages, presentations, etc.) to support corporate or business unit teams.

Develop story ideas for intranet editorial, edit copy, and coordinate artwork with designers.

Build and distribute bulk email campaigns in ContactMonkey.

Increase audience use of and interaction with corporate news content.

Develop project work plans for content development and implement tactics within the plan.

Document decisions in work plans and manage customer expectations for timelines.

Interview and record subjects for internal podcast episodes.

Edit audio and video files as needed.

Maintain digital signage displayed throughout the enterprise.

General Duties

Plan, develop, and implement communication projects for internal and external audiences.

Assist in the development of strategic communication plans; write, edit, and coordinate tactics.

Handle all matters with discretion and maintain confidentiality of all information.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, produce, and distribute communications for internal/external audiences.

Evaluate communication issues and make recommendations to managers and project leaders on projects, opportunities, and alternatives.

Assist in the development of communication plans; write, edit, and coordinate tactics such as discussion guides, presentations, and speeches.

Develop PowerPoint support for presentations as needed and present reports to management.

Plan, prepare, and disseminate information about the company and/or business unit; evaluate impact and effectiveness of communications and provide recommendations for improvement.

Serve as a project leader for assigned communication projects.

Perform needs assessments and evaluate possible solutions/alternatives to develop and recommend new communication programs and strategies; may assist with survey tools for opinion research.

Assist in training other communications associates.

Typical Skills and Experiences Education Undergraduate studies in communications, journalism, advertising, or related field; degree preferred.

Experience Typically five or more years of proven experience in a communication field, including developing content for impactful corporate communications programs.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Proven knowledge in communication techniques and an understanding of advertising, public relations, and/or sales/marketing communication concepts. Accountable for long‑term communications projects, quick turnaround assignments, and comfortable working with large cross‑functional teams. Strong sense of accountability in creating and executing communication tactics that are targeted and on time. Ability to influence, prepare, and deliver verbal presentations and demonstrations translating complex policy and technical concepts to all types of audiences. Verbal and written communication must be excellent. Specific experience in web, audio‑visual, print, layout, and design may be more valuable in certain roles. Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies, and experiences, may take precedence.

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment. Extended work hours may be necessary during periods of heavier volume. May need to be available to work in field locations to provide media support for catastrophic situations.
