Job Description

Responsibilities

  • This person will be responsible for covering live sporting events of all local, professional and sports teams or related local sports stories.
  • Candidate is responsible for producing, writing, shooting and editing his own stories and segments.
  • This person will be responsible for keeping up to date on current events in the world of sports.
  • The Sports MMJ will also be expected to participate in community events and station activities from time to time as master of ceremonies and/or Host as requested by the Station.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in Spanish market broadcast television.
  • Knowledge of major sports in the United States and Mexico are a must.
  • The ability to ad-lib and improvise effortlessly in various types of on air situations.
  • Work well under pressure with an ability to meet deadlines
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required both written and verbal. A high level of skill and mastery of the Spanish language is essential.
  • Work effectively with others in a team oriented environment.
  • Degree in Journalism is desired.
  • Willingness and ability to work long hours, late nights and weekends as required.
  • Shoot & edit videos for news broadcasts.
  • Able to work a Flexible Schedule and Shifts.

Qualifications

  • Own the big sports headlines with innovative, compelling storytelling across all platforms.
  • Pitch and produce enterprise and lead sports stories for broadcast, digital, and social media.
  • Independently produce nightly sportscasts for 5PM, 6PM and 11PM newscasts, ensuring high editorial standards.
  • Cover live sporting events for local, professional, and major league teams, as well as community sports stories.
  • Write, shoot, and edit your own stories and segments with creativity and accuracy.
  • Stay up-to-date on sports news and trends locally and nationally.
  • Create and host a weekly segment highlighting a local athlete or community member making an impact.
  • Maintain an active presence on social media, engaging audiences and driving conversation.
  • Ensure all content meets NBCUniversal News Group Legal and Standards guidelines.
  • Understand and comply with sports copyrights and licensing requirements to protect the station and maintain ethical standards.
  • Build strong relationships with community leaders and organizations to deepen our local sports coverage.
  • Participate in station-sponsored events, community activities, and special projects as a representative of the station.
  • Develop and maintain a planning calendar for sports coverage and special initiatives.
