Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Design Leader with Pre‑K project experience to join our team. This role is responsible for managing small‑scale projects through all phases of design and delivery, while contributing to larger project teams as needed. The Design Leader will support Senior Project Managers by preparing interior architectural documentation and ensuring adherence to established work plans, schedules, and project objectives. This position requires strong collaboration skills and regular coordination with architects, consultants, and internal team members to achieve design excellence and project success.

This position is located in Seattle, Washington and will support Bassetti, a design studio of HMC Architects. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Monday's and Fridays.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate projects with team members and consultants to resolve conflicts and discrepancies
  • Assist in development of project interview materials
  • Assist in development of project documents during all phases of the project
  • Apply building code concepts of accessibility, occupant loads, exit widths, fire rated walls and doors, ramps, stairs and handrails
  • Understanding of basic construction systems of walls, roofs, doors, and windows
  • Coordinate a project’s design intent through the construction document and construction phases
  • Help select appropriate materials, systems and develop all construction details and systems
  • Coordinate the design intent in the development of outline specifications
  • Prepare complex plans, elevations, and details under guidance of supervisor
  • Participate in the creation of working drawings, and fulfill requirements/deliverables of SD, DD, and CD phases
  • Coordinate with government agencies, utility companies and obtain plan check approvals
  • Lead and assist in the development and documentation of project design, such as three‑dimensional Revit modeling, physical models, and product or material research
  • Prepare various Design Communication and Presentation materials including sketches, rendered 2D & 3D drawings, rendered perspectives, slide shows and material selection boards
  • Participate in the creation of documents required by governing agencies
  • Estimate hours for assigned tasks and finish tasks within agreed‑upon budget hours for the task
  • Lead and participate in design awards and publications efforts
  • Support design team and ensure that the design intent is followed through all phases
  • Update supervisor on statuses of projects
  • Interact with lead designers to solve project issues, and integrate design intent with project document development through all phases
  • Support project designer and project manager in supervision and delegation of work
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Architectural degree from an accredited university or equivalent demonstrated proficiency
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in architecture design and in the production coordination of documents in all phases of architecture practice
  • Able to establish productive working relationships, and deal effectively and cooperatively with team members, consultants, and government agencies
  • Display willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in decision‑making process; make timely decisions
  • Ability to professionally communicate both verbally and in writing to give assignments to office support staff, consultants, and vendors
  • Ability to delegate assignments to support staff and always be respectful
  • Ability to correspond effectively with consultants for Revit files and minor directives
  • Proficient in the documentation of project design in Revit such as three‑dimensional modeling in Rhino and Enscape
  • Exhibit advanced proficiency in Revit by handling complex editing tasks, setting up project drawing files, managing all Revit files, and troubleshooting any issues on the HMC Revit platform
  • Understand technical terminology of the architectural and construction industry
  • Demonstrate design communication skills via sketching and hand drawings
  • Understand requirements/deliverables of all phases
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the applicable building codes for independent code analysis and compliance

The salary range for this position is $65,591 - $95,254

The actual salary offered for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
