OVERVIEW
The primary function of the Senior Digital Library Account Manager is to serve as point of contact to ensure the successful onboarding and renewal of institutional customers’ of ACM Digital Library (DL) and Open Access subscriptions.
These responsibilities consist of preparing annual price quotes for individual institutions and consortia customers for internal review and communicating them directly to customers, responding to requests for information about the ACM Digital Library (DL), ACM Books and ACM’s Open Access policies and programs, managing the processing of any documentation, including licenses and related paperwork, requesting purchase orders and generating invoices, ensuring timely payment of accounts, analyzing usage statistics and providing usage and publication reports to customers upon request, and performing basic technical support for institutional DL subscribers. The position reports to the Digital Library Advertising Sales Director. The position requires in‑office presence Tuesday‑Thursday in ACM’s midtown Manhattan offices. Monday and Friday are work‑from‑home.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and communicate annual DL subscription and Open Access license quotes for current consortia and individual accounts on a rolling basis in coordination with DL & Advertising Sales Director.
- Act as main point of contact for assigned accounts’ onboarding process for new DL and Open Access subscriptions, and for ongoing customer support by answering any questions related to DL and Open Access policies and programs, providing usage and article publication reports, and performing other related account management responsibilities.
- Support DL sales process via invoicing, drafting of licenses, and processing of required documentation.
- Respond to requests for information about the DL and ACM’s Open Access policies and programs, provide basic “frontline” technical support such as IP updates and SSO implementation for assigned accounts.
- Maintain ongoing accurate CRM records for institutional customers.
- Oversee account receivables for assigned accounts to maintain timely payments and conduct timely payment collection activities for past‑due accounts.
- Attend and represent ACM at library market conferences each year, estimated at approximately 5 weeks per year, and manage the setting up and breakdown of ACM’s exhibition booth at all attended conferences.
- Maintain ongoing financial reporting related to assigned institutional accounts.
- Monitor trends in overall assigned accounts’ DL and Open Access existing business and alert DL & Advertising Sales Director to any perceived opportunities and threats.
RELATIONSHIPS
- No direct reports.
- Contact with ACM staff: ACM DL Sales team, ACM IS staff, ACM finance staff, and ACM customer service staff, possible
- Contact with ACM Volunteers and Members is possible at Publication Board meetings.
- The Senior Account Manager will focus primarily on relationships with current ACM institutional customers and consortia and ACM’s sales agent partners, but may also interact with publisher services vendors.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- 4‑year college degree required, preferably in business/marketing, library science or computer science related fields.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of related account management, account retention and customer service experience in the publishing industry, preferably in an STM publishing environment.
- Familiarity with Open Access licensing models is required.
Skills:
- The individual must have strong in‑person, written and oral communication skills, be comfortable working with international customers, have an ability to manage a wide range of daily tasks and responsibilities in a time‑sensitive environment, and have excellent computer, organizational, decision‑making, and time‑management skills.
- An ability to work independently with minimum daily supervision are firm requirements of this position.
