Company Description

The Frequency Network blends innovation, creativity, and community to transform the media landscape, addressing its fast-paced evolution. We empower creators across various platforms, including audio, video, print, events, merchandise, and intellectual property, providing tools to help them connect and thrive. Proudly brought to you by Massif & Kroo, we are committed to reimagining how media is created and consumed.

Role Description

This is a full-time (hybrid) role located in Washington, DC, for a Director of Podcast Subscription and Memberships. The role entails designing and implementing membership development strategies and fostering relationships with subscribers and creators. Responsibilities include developing subscription plans, managing budgets, optimizing sales strategies, and ensuring premium customer service experiences. The candidate will lead initiatives to grow and retain the network's subscriber and membership base.

Qualifications

  • Membership Development and Sales: Experience in developing and scaling subscription models, membership programs, and driving growth through targeted sales efforts.
  • Exceptional Communication and Customer Service: Strong skills in engaging with subscribers and addressing their needs, while maintaining clear and effective communication across teams and with stakeholders.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Proven ability to create, manage, and analyze budgets to meet financial goals and drive sustainable growth.
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning: Ability to oversee teams, set clear goals, and devise strategies to increase subscriber engagement and retention.
  • Familiarity with the podcast industry, digital media trends, and audience engagement tools is a plus.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Strategy & Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end subscription and membership strategy for The Frequency Network across platforms (Apple, Spotify, Patreon/Memberful, proprietary, etc.).
  • Define the membership ladder: free, paid, premium tiers, benefits, and pricing by show and network-wide.
  • Set targets for acquisition, retention, churn, and LTV; own the roadmap to hit them.

Platform & Product

  • Serve as our internal expert on podcast subscription and creator-economy tools; evaluate platforms, negotiate terms, and manage vendors.
  • Lead the technical rollout of memberships across shows: feeds, paywalls, gating, bonus content, early access, communities, and bundles.
  • Work with our production team to shape what “membership value” looks like per show (bonus episodes, AMAs, office hours, live recordings, resources, downloads, etc.).

Growth & Marketing

  • Build and manage the growth engine for subscriptions: funnels, landing pages, email flows, in-episode promos, cross-show promotion, and seasonal campaigns.
  • Own the membership marketing calendar and coordinate with social, newsletter, and brand partners so campaigns launch on time with a clear offer.
  • Design and test offers (trials, annual vs monthly, limited-time bonuses) and translate performance into clear next steps.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Stand up a reporting backbone across platforms (podcast apps, email, web, payment processors) so we have one source of truth for member metrics.
  • Track and report on core KPIs: conversion rates, ARPU, cohort retention, churn reasons, and payback periods.
  • Turn data into decisions: recommend content experiments, pricing changes, and benefit adjustments based on subscriber behavior.

Community & Experiences

  • Work with show talent and our production team to create engagement loops that keep members active: Q&A, polls, challenges, private feeds, and community touchpoints.
  • Coordinate member-first and member-only experiences: virtual events, small in-person gatherings around live tapings, and integrations with sponsors where appropriate.
  • Build simple systems so talent can participate in community without burning out.

Internal Leadership

  • Create playbooks so that as we launch new shows, membership is part of the launch, not an afterthought.
  • Collaborate with sales and partnerships to align membership with ad and sponsor offerings (e.g., bundles that mix access, attribution, and audience data).
  • Operate like an internal GM for the membership business: you are responsible for both P&L and member experience.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • 4–7 years in digital subscriptions, creator platforms, performance marketing, or direct-to-consumer growth with a track record of moving revenue, not just impressions.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one major subscription stack (Apple/Spotify Subscriptions, Patreon/Memberful, Stripe-based custom stacks, etc.).
  • Strong analytical ability: you’re comfortable building funnels, reading cohort charts, and making a call when the data is messy but directionally clear.
  • Proven project management skills: you’ve run multi-step launches, hit deadlines, and kept multiple stakeholders aligned without constant supervision.
  • Experience working with creators, talent, or editorial teams—and the ability to translate business goals into membership offers that feel authentic, not spammy.
  • High bias toward action and experimentation: you can design tests, ship them fast, and shut down what doesn’t work.
  • Clear, direct communication—written and verbal. You can explain complex subscription mechanics in simple language to talent, sponsors, and internal teams.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

This is a remote-friendly role with core collaboration hours in U.S. Eastern time. Occasional travel for live recordings, events, and team working sessions may be required.

WHY MASSIF & KROO / THE FREQUENCY NETWORK

  • You are early enough to shape the system, not just plug into one.
  • You get to work across a slate of shows with real audiences in health, wellness, aviation, faith, and business—not just one vertical.
  • You’ll sit close to decision-makers and see the full stack: talent, production, sales, sponsors, and product in one integrated media company.

OUR COMMITMENT

Massif & Kroo is building a company where the people behind the mic and the people behind the scenes reflect the audiences we serve. We care more about competence, integrity, and bias for action than “perfect” career paths. If your experience is non-linear but you can show how you’ve grown and shipped things that worked, you’ll be taken seriously here.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time role with a base salary plus performance incentives tied to subscription growth and retention. Exact compensation will depend on experience, scope, and geography, and will be discussed early in the process.
