Job Title: Technical Writer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to create, update, and manage a variety of technical documents, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with internal and customer requirements. This role requires synthesizing information from diverse sources and collaborating with subject matter experts to deliver high-quality documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Research and synthesize information from diverse sources such as online documentation, technical manuals, engineering drawings, project plans, assembly instructions, bills of materials, SolidWorks 3D models, and testing protocols.

  • Create, update, and manage technical documents including user guides, training materials, maintenance instructions, service bulletins, installation procedures, overhaul and repair guides, test documentation, and software manuals.

  • Record meeting notes, track action items, and ensure timely follow-up.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and finalize deliverable documents.

  • Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and easy to understand, utilizing visuals to enhance comprehension.

  • Participate in face-to-face meetings with technical experts to maintain project timelines.

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with customers and the Integrated Product Team (IPT).

  • Take part in formal design reviews, documenting key points and action items.

  • Provide regular updates and progress reports to technical staff, program managers, executives, and clients.

  • Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by management.

Essential Skills

  • At least five years of technical writing experience within a military research or manufacturing setting.

  • Demonstrated experience producing operational manuals.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze technical specifications.

  • Capable of working independently, managing multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Hands-on experience with operational manuals, proposals, and technical reports.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (such as Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline), or completion of a technical/scientific certification program.

  • Willingness to learn software analysis techniques (preferred).

  • Familiarity with MS Project, CAD software, and graphic design tools is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of military and industry standards, including AS9100 quality systems, is preferred.

Work Environment

The role involves working closely with technical experts and attending meetings with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) and customers. The work environment is dynamic, requiring participation in face-to-face meetings and formal design reviews. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with CAD software and graphic design tools will be beneficial.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Chatsworth, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $56.00/hr.
