Job Summary
The Department of Art and Art History in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a Lecturer. This position is non‑tenured, Academic Professional Track, focusing on Visual Communication Design (VCD) in the BFA Art and BA Art degree programs.
All faculty must be legally authorized to work in the United States; we are unable to sponsor employment visas.
This lecturer will play a crucial role in teaching students who will enter a rapidly evolving visual communication industry. The successful candidate will have a strong background in graphic design principles applied to emerging technologies and interactive design contexts.
Eligible Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses across the VCD curriculum, including web design, mobile application design, packaging design, and interactive design.
Serve on departmental committees and advise undergraduate students as faculty advisors.
Conduct portfolio reviews and mentor students in VCD.
Support the department through service, including curriculum development and special topic proposals.
Required Qualifications
A terminal degree (MFA, MDes, PhD) in Communication Design, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or a related accredited field.
Exceptional knowledge in advanced design focus areas such as web, mobile, mobile application, or packaging design.
A professional portfolio demonstrating design principles, standards, and concepts.
Expertise in Mac OS and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to contribute to the academic community through teaching, advising, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years of university‑level teaching experience in design courses.
Minimum of two (2) years of professional design work experience.
Background in personal creative practice and industry experience.
Experience developing and supporting a competitive curriculum, including special topics courses.
Expertise in digital technologies aligned with current trends, grounded in interactive design principles.
Active participation in professional organizations.
Knowledge of specialized areas such as web design, mobile app design, interactive design, motion graphics, emerging technology, fabrication, information graphics, packaging design, data visualization, or UI/UX.
Working knowledge of industry‑standard tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and Figma.
Experience conducting portfolio reviews.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Versatile designer emphasizing emerging technological skills within the field.
Available to teach at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.
