Fundraiser & Grant Writing Specialist
Reports to: Finance Director

Position Summary
The Fundraiser & Grant Writing Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure funding that advances The Well's mission and programs. This position focuses on donor cultivation, grant research and writing, fundraising campaign coordination, and tracking funding opportunities. The Specialist ensures The Well maintains a strong, diverse, and mission-aligned funding base.
Working closely with the Finance Director, this role connects financial needs with community support-translating data, stories, and strategy into sustainable revenue. The Specialist collaborates across departments to gather impact data, align funding priorities, and craft compelling narratives that highlight The Well's impact.
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Norfolk, NE, with occasional regional travel.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, nonprofit management, business, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum two years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, development, or similar work.
- Demonstrated success identifying, applying for, and securing foundation, corporate, and government grants.
- Knowledge of donor cultivation, stewardship, and campaign coordination.
- Familiarity with nonprofit budgeting, outcome measurement, and grant compliance.
- Strong ability to craft mission-driven, impact-focused written materials.
- Skilled at managing deadlines, tracking proposals, and maintaining organized development records.
- Proficiency in CRM/donor management systems.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to interpret financial and program data for proposals and reports.
- Self-motivated, organized, and goal-oriented with high integrity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with donors and partners.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and detail-oriented.

1. Grant Research, Writing, & Management
- Identify and evaluate grant opportunities aligned with The Well's programs.
- Prepare and submit high-quality proposals, budgets, and letters of intent.
- Maintain a comprehensive grant calendar and ensure timely submissions and reporting.
- Collaborate with finance and program teams to develop accurate narratives, outcomes, and budgets.
- Keep organized records of all grant activity and communications.
- Support the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and appeals.
- Develop donor communications such as newsletters, updates, and acknowledgment letters.
- Assist with donor events, community fundraisers, and special campaigns.
- Conduct donor and prospect research; maintain donor data and records.
- Coordinate with the Finance Director to ensure accurate donor tracking and acknowledgment.
- Engage regularly with program staff to gather stories, data, and outcomes.
- Ensure messaging is mission-aligned, trauma-informed, and reflective of The Well's values.
- Create compelling materials including impact summaries, funding briefs, and donor spotlights.
- Assist with presentations and materials for funders, partners, and events.
- Track grant outcomes, spending, and performance measures.
- Prepare and submit required progress and final reports.
- Ensure compliance with grant terms and restricted funds in coordination with Finance.
- Help refine internal systems for grant and donor management.
- Work with the Finance Director to align fundraising with budget goals.
- Partner with program staff to understand needs, outcomes, and priorities.
- Participate in professional development and local fundraising networks.
- Support organization-wide initiatives and events as needed.
- Regular sitting, standing, walking, and computer use.
- Occasional travel for community events, donor meetings, and conferences.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Comfortable engaging with donors and partners in varied settings.
- Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation required; mileage reimbursed at federal rate.
