Job Description Under general supervision, performs advanced professional librarian work; supervises operations of the Portola Branch Library, staff and subordinate personnel, interprets, enforces, and carries out assigned duties. Makes regular contacts with the general public, outside organizations, and library personnel. Maintains awareness of reading trends. Plans and conducts library programs to meet community needs, and may be assigned responsibility for special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises all operations, staff, collections, supplies, and facilities according to library guidelines.
Works with staff to address patron concerns and issues in a respectful and timely manner.
Responsible for oversight, delivery, budget management, and marketing of public programming.
Represents Portola Branch by participating in community outreach events and meetings.
Meets weekly with direct reports to discuss work performance and build successful working relationships.
Prepares annual performance plan and evaluations in accordance with established deadlines.
Supports branch public services on evenings and weekends by serving as Acting Chief of Branches.
Desired Qualifications
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with staff, subordinates, the general public, community organizations, and administration.
Demonstrated leadership in organizational change by assisting in policy formulation and implementation.
Experience partnering with schools and community based organizations.
Work Schedule Tuesday: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Wednesday: 11:00am - 8:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Friday: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Saturday: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in library and information studies (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
Two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian equivalent to class 3630 Librarian I.
At least one year (2,000 hours) of verifiable experience performing duties of a Children’s, Youth, and/or Teen Services Librarian.
