Job Description The Design Manager will be responsible for all aspects of store design. He/she will provide design support for all new stores, remodels, pop‑ups and special projects, collaborating with the development team—including real estate, construction, visual merchandising and marketing—to develop retail stores nationally and internationally.
What you’ll get to do
Develop initial test fit floor plans, facade design and signage concepts, and design detail drawings to convey design intent to AOR.
Work with internal departments (Real Estate, Construction, Visual Merchandising, Marketing and Operations) to ensure the store design aligns with brand standards.
Collaborate closely with the VP of Development and Senior Design Manager to implement design vision while maintaining brand and operational standards.
Create presentation materials for design concepts—plans, 3D renderings, hand sketches, inspiration boards, and material sample collections—for senior management.
Manage external Architect of Record and design teams across all project phases (Due Diligence, SD, DD, CD and CA).
Coordinate and manage permit expeditors with AOR to ensure regulatory approvals meet schedules.
Forecast and manage schedule of assigned pipeline projects, updating the Development team weekly.
Review and approve architectural plans, elevations, and shop drawings to ensure accuracy and brand compliance.
Conduct weekly meetings with external consultants and internal cross‑functional teams.
Work closely with owner‑supplied vendors on design, shop drawings, purchase orders and schedules.
Negotiate and maintain design budget and contracts with consultants.
Research current global trends in culture, retail design, architecture, fashion, art, etc.
Support development and maintenance of store design standards and prototype documentation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Interior Design or equivalent experience.
5+ years of design experience—experience in a global retail brand’s store design team is a plus.
Excellent ability to articulate and sketch/detail design concepts for documentation and constructability.
Experience throughout the construction administration process.
Superior organizational skills; ability to plan, prioritize, multi‑task and manage projects independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, SketchUp, Bluebeam. Revit, Enscape, 3D Max experience a plus.
Thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and works both independently and closely with others.
