Academic Wage-Hourly: Faculty Research Assistant (Environmental Communications)
Department: Fisheries and Wildlife (AFW); Location: Corvallis, OR (Hybrid/Remote option available).
Position Type: Fixed-term, 12 months, part‑time (0.5 FTE), Academic Wage. Salary per hourly rate.
Job Summary : The Dr. Megan Jones lab conducts research on environmental communication and voluntary conservation action. The assistant will support communication of research findings to public and practitioner audiences, and assist with ongoing research projects.
Key Responsibilities
Approximately 45% of the role is research communications: designing written, visual, and interactive materials for scientific journals and diverse audiences.
Approximately 45% of the role is research support: designing/conducting surveys, interviews, literature reviews, writing grants, and providing logistical support.
Approximately 10% of the role is mentorship and lab support: mentoring graduate students.
What You Will Need (Qualifications)
Master’s degree in fish and wildlife conservation, environmental management, science communication, or a related discipline, including communication coursework.
Knowledge and experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; proven proficiency in scientific, academic, outreach, or professional writing.
Strong visual communication skills; demonstrated proficiency in graphic design, infographics, illustration, or digital marketing.
Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and engagement with diverse audiences.
Capacity to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain high‑quality results.
What We Would Like You to Have (Preferred)
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator or similar graphic design tools.
Experience with research software such as R, Python, NVivo or MaxQDA.
Knowledge of current professional and social trends in environmental conservation and sustainability.
Experience developing and maintaining collaborations with nonprofits, government agencies, or businesses.
Experience writing grant or scholarship applications.
Experience mentoring graduate or undergraduate students.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
— Daily computer use; hybrid schedule (home and Corvallis campus) or fully remote.
