Essential Job Duties

Digital Strategy and Content Creation

Plan, write and edit content for the CVM website, social media, and other digital campaigns.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop editorial calendars, pitch ideas, and package stories that highlight the college’s people, research, teaching, and outreach.

Ensure accuracy, accessibility, and adherence to NC State’s brand standards, editorial guidelines, and AP style.

Research and translate complex scientific, academic, and medical topics into clear, engaging stories for diverse audiences.

Serve as a lead writer or creator for high‑profile initiatives that have a strong digital focus.

Editorial Excellence and Brand Stewardship

Provide editing and feedback for content developed by others, maintaining brand voice, factual integrity, and professional standards.

Apply strong editorial judgment and ethical principles in all communications.

Advocate for best practices in writing for the web, integrated digital storytelling, and accessibility compliance.

Social Media Strategy

Manage and grow CVM’s social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, BlueSky, and YouTube.

Develop and execute strategies to expand reach, engagement, and community connection.

Lead live event coverage and create multimedia stories that reflect the CVM experience.

Creative Campaigns and Innovation

Conceptualize and execute digital campaigns that amplify flagship events such as Day of Giving, Open House, and research spotlights.

Partner with faculty, staff, students, and external collaborators to elevate storytelling and align messages across the university.

Experiment with new formats, technologies, and storytelling techniques to keep CVM’s digital presence innovative and relevant.

Create or coordinate graphics, photos, and other visual assets to support stories.

Work with designers and developers to ensure cohesive presentation and user experience across platforms.

Collaboration and Project Management

Maintain editorial calendars, track assignments, and ensure projects meet standards for quality and timeliness.

Use analytics to evaluate story effectiveness and audience engagement.

Support continuous improvement of processes for content planning, production, and publication.

Serve as a consultant on digital content and storytelling projects across the college.

Build strong relationships with communicators, clinicians, and researchers to identify and elevate stories.

Provide training and guidance to colleagues on content best practices, analytics, and digital trends.

Other Responsibilities

Provide creative and logistical support for event coverage, photography, and other communications needs.

Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or a related field – or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

Proven excellence in writing, editing, and storytelling across digital and print platforms.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

6–8 years of professional experience in digital communications, writing, and editing.

Proven ability to translate complex academic/scientific information into content for broad audiences.

Proficiency with content management systems (WordPress preferred), social media management tools, and analytics dashboards.

Working knowledge of basic graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), AP style, and NC State brand guidelines.

Familiarity with SEO, web usability, and accessibility standards, preferably within higher education, science, or healthcare communications.
