With over 30 years of commitment to excellence, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Editor to join our dedicated editorial team. Position Summary: The Assistant Editor is responsible for providing editorial and administrative assistance, as well as tracking the end-to-end production process for both curriculum and book publications. This role ensures editorial quality, timely delivery, and compliance with publishing standards. The ideal candidate is an organized multitasker with experience in project workflows and a strong editorial eye. Recent college graduates with excellent references and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Book Production Coordinate production schedules for new and upcoming book titles. Manage proposal submissions, author contracts, and track manuscript progress. Receive and process final manuscripts for editorial review. Apply for CIP (Cataloging in Publication) data from the Library of Congress. Solicit endorsements and prepare back cover copy. Input galley corrections and oversee pre-press reviews and cold reads. Distribute author kits and gratis copies for authors, endorsers, and reviewers. Manage metadata and upload titles (print, eBook, audiobook) to digital distributors. Deliver final eBook files to third-party digital distributors. Handle curriculum writer contracts and process payment requests. Conduct editorial cold reads for all curriculum products. Manage the editorial workflow of corporate blogs, including author interviews. Participate in all team planning efforts related to each product. Additional Responsibilities Oversee copyright permissions and ensure all rights are secured for publication. Represent Smyth & Helwys at conferences or industry events, as needed (occasional travel required). Provide assistance to the Publisher, as directed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Religious Studies, or related field is preferred, though alternate fields of study will be considered. Experience in a church setting is preferred. Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Ability to handle multitasking and a strict adherence to deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud and Excel is a plus.
