WBNG is looking for a bold, people-first News Director who lives for great storytelling, thrives on breaking news, and loves building the kind of newsroom where curious, creative journalists do the best work of their careers. You’ll partner closely with a General Manager who came up through the News Director ranks- someone who speaks “news”, backs strong journalism, and believes in coaching, collaboration, and winning the right way. Duties & Responsibilities Set and uphold market-leading standards for daily newsgathering, content quality, and multiplatform execution. Make fast, accurate journalistic and logistical decisions‑especially when news is breaking. Hire, coach, supervise, and evaluate a diverse, high‑performing team of journalists and newsroom leaders. Champion enterprise reporting and public‑service journalism that reflects and serves our community. Collaborate across departments (Sales, Creative, Engineering, Digital) to achieve company performance goals. Prepare and manage newsroom budgets and capital requests; prioritize resources for maximum impact. Foster a positive, creative, accountable culture that grows people, ratings, and trust. Qualifications & Requirements A minimum of 4 years of television news management experience (preferred). A college degree in broadcast journalism (preferred). Deep knowledge of community issues and sound, ethical journalistic principles. Proven ability to make clear, fast, and accurate decisions under pressure. A coaching mindset: you love developing people and building future leaders.
