Hiring range is negotiable between $38,544 and $50,100 depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience.

Responsible for the promotion, marketing, events, and effective communication for the Goldsboro Parks & Recreation Department to meet the goals of the department and organization. An employee in this class is responsible for supporting various marketing initiatives and campaigns to enhance brand visibility, drive engagement, and generate leads for programs and events for the Goldsboro Parks & Recreation Department. Responsibilities include implementing and executing events and activities, promoting the Department through multiple advertising/marketing channels, maintaining the organization's online presence, and assisting with the creation of all graphic design/layout content. Employee must exercise considerable tact and discretion in dealing with the public. Work requires independence and self-initiative in activities and may include supervising or providing technical assistance to other staff in the organization. The employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and requires the ability to stand for long periods of time and the ability to lift objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. This position regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in performing job duties, particularly in the implementation of programming and marketing. Work is typically performed under the supervision of the Marketing and Special Events Supervisor and is evaluated through observation, feedback from citizens and staff, and ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of work processes.

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Create, develop and manage content for GPR’s websites (requires working with content management system); copyedit and proofread all web content; curate all user-submitted content. Review and obtain approval of the Marketing & Special Events Supervisor before publishing.

Work with various departments and staff to execute marketing plans.

Create marketing materials through graphic design to be utilized in print, web and social platforms

In conjunction with the Marketing & Special Events Supervisor, maintain quality control of the GPR brand throughout all departments, programs and channels

Managing and leveraging GPR digital resources such as video and photo archives

Keeping up to date on the latest tools, web technologies and social media tactics being used, and evaluating how GPR can take advantage of opportunities to use new technologies and new approaches

Digital photography; shooting and editing of video content

Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Marketing & Special Events Supervisor

Assist in coordinating and facilitation of special events for the city, including themes, concepts, and objectives in relation to organizational goals and Council initiatives.

Researches and recommends opportunities for special events and community partnerships with outside organizations.

Serves as a liaison between city departments, business owners, and vendors in the coordination of special events.

Serves as co-coordinator for Wayne County Senior Games.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro

Proficiency in filming, editing, and producing creative promotional videos

Knowledge of event planning methods and principles;

High level organizational skills, willingness and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Ability to create, compose, and edit written and electronic materials

Ability to successfully work collaboratively and with minimal supervision

Ability to work on multidisciplinary teams

Ability to interact and promote positive relations with citizens.

Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.

willingness to work some nights and weekends

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Parks and Recreation or related discipline.

Two Years marketing, graphic design, or related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Knowledge and experience with managing social media platforms and coordinating special events.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Video editing and website development and applications preferred.

Ability to obtain certifications in First Aid, AED and CPR.

Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
