Nashville Public Radio is hiring: Assistant Editor in New York
Nashville Public Radio, New York, NY, US, 10261
1 Minute Critic is the new digital platform that transforms how audiences discover and experience theater, art, books, dance, and live music. We believe that a hot take can also be a smart one. Our editorial platform, 2x-week newsletter, social media channels, and community efforts encompass a range of ways to engage with culture lovers.
The Role
The assistant editor will support our editorial director in identifying, writing, and formatting content for the website and social media. Interest and enthusiasm in arts & culture is paramount, with a critical eye for what makes compelling content that’s less about social media trends and virality (though we do have traffic goals) and more about the “why now?” perspective. This position reports to the editorial director.
What You’ll Be Doing
Write and edit news content and cultural analysis for 1minutecritic.com, covering theater, art, dance, books, and live music. (Note: This is not a theater critic position, though review opportunities may be available.)
Format content, including images, captions, video embeds, and other design elements in WordPress
Fact-check and proofread according to the 1MC style guide
Edit and/or adapt content for social media
Qualifications
Experience with the following platforms: WordPress, Canva (or other basic image editing experience), Buffer, Instagram, TikTok
1-2 years of arts journalism
What We’re Looking For
A passion for the arts
An interest and expertise in at least one area beyond our theater coverage: books (nonfiction, arts & culture, memoir/biography), art, dance, and live music
A high attention to detail, enthusiastic, excellent communicator, and adaptable
An inquisitive nature
Someone who can meet deadlines, or anticipate and then communicate not meeting a deadline
A strong point of view but a kind disposition.
Location
New York City: Remote//Hybrid. Most work done remotely, with occasional opportunities to attend cultural events, including art exhibits, concerts, book signings, and theater performances. May also consider Los Angeles or Chicago.
Employment Type / Salary
Monthly retainer at $25/hour, up to 16 hours per month, with growth potential
Perfect as a supplemental gig for freelancers or recent grads looking to build their arts journalism portfolio

What to Send
Resume
