Art and Art History - Assistant Professor - Ceramics / 3D Design

The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Studio Art in Ceramics and 3D Design. This is a tenure‑track, full‑time position (24 workload hours: 18 teaching hours; 6 research/creative activity hours) on a 9‑month contract to begin in August 2026. The program is NASAD accredited and part of a Christian liberal arts college.

Position Overview

We seek an artist and educator whose practice and teaching engage the expanded field of ceramics and three‑dimensional design. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in the history and tradition of ceramics with a global perspective and the ability to link these foundations to experimental and sculptural approaches. The faculty member will also lead an incremental plan for expanding 3D design tools and technologies.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in ceramics and 3D design for studio art majors and non‑majors.
  • Integrate strong technical instruction with conceptual development, fostering both skill and critical thinking.
  • Contribute to the college’s general education curriculum, including First‑Year Seminars and the department’s senior capstone course on a rotating basis.
  • Provide mentorship, conduct portfolio reviews, hold regular office hours, and assess student work.

Qualifications

  • Active studio practice with a vibrant exhibition record.
  • Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics or another three‑dimensional discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach studio art in a Christian liberal arts context.
  • Engagement with global perspectives that embrace diversity and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in ceramic hand‑building, wheel techniques, mold making, casting, glaze formulation, and basic kiln operation.
  • Knowledge of 3D design principles, material handling (clay, wire, cardboard, wood), and digital design and fabrication.
