Part-Time Library Assistant II - South Cobb

This part-time position is based at South Cobb Regional Library in Mableton and requires travel to other regional branches as needed. The role involves assisting patrons with online resources, computer and tech questions, reference inquiries, and circulation services on an 18‑hour weekly schedule, including nights, weekends, and an additional 4 hours on scheduled Sundays.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to library patrons and the public: greet visitors, direct them to library areas, assist with library services, fees, and procedures, research book titles and patron records, reserve materials, notify patrons of overdue books or arrivals, and aid in the use of library equipment.
  • Return library books and materials to appropriate shelving areas: shelf materials, read labels to ensure correct branch placement, and locate missing items.
  • Check library materials in and out: operate the automated circulation system to charge, discharge, and renew books; count paperbacks, retrieve books from the drop, inspect for damage, withdraw items needing repair, sort and arrange materials on book carts, and separate new books for display.
  • Perform general library operations: sort donated paperbacks, move book carts, maintain library appearance, clean counters, water plants, and run errands as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels of library supplies and initiate requests for replacements.
  • Answer telephone calls: provide information, take and relay messages, direct calls, and return calls.
  • Provide computer and reference assistance: help patrons find information, instruct on library systems, suggest internal and external resources, and conduct informal training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, supplemented by one year of customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Physical & Sensory Requirements

Light physical effort in sedentary to light work, with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects weighing 5–10 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. Some tasks require oral communication.

Essential functions performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
