Details Job Overview We are seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled individual to join our team as a Wastewater Operator Trainee. This hands‑on position plays a vital role in the operation and maintenance of two wastewater treatment plants, nine satellite pump stations and approximately 90 miles of collection system infrastructure.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals with plumbing, mechanical, or maintenance experience who are looking to transition into a stable and rewarding career in utility operations.
Key Responsibilities As a Wastewater Operator Trainee, you will be trained to carry out a variety of technical and physical tasks, including:
Operating, inspecting, and maintaining pumps, valves, piping systems, and other critical equipment
Performing mechanical repairs and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions
Cleaning and maintaining sewer lines using jetting and televising equipment
Assisting with wet weather investigations and lateral repair inspections
Collecting and analyzing samples to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and process control
Making process adjustments based on lab results and operational data
Operating the belt filter press and maintaining sludge processing equipment
Following all safety procedures and documentation requirements
Preferred Skills & Experience We are specifically looking for candidates who have strong plumbing or mechanical skills, such as:
Pipe fitting, valve maintenance, or drain/sewer line work
Equipment repair, pump servicing, or hydraulic systems
Experience with tools, machinery, and preventive maintenance routines
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings or technical manuals
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Valid driver's license
Ability to obtain a “Class B – Subclass 1, 2 & 4” Operator Certification within 2 years of employment
Willingness to work rotating weekends, holidays, and participate in an on‑call schedule
