Overview
The Instructional Designer works collaboratively with faculty and other CTLE staff to design, develop, and implement high quality learning experiences for traditional, online, and blended/hybrid courses. The Instructional Designer provides training for faculty on course design, use of instructional technologies in online and hybrid course content development and delivery, and use of the campus learning management system (Canvas LMS). This role supports OSU-OKC faculty and staff in adopting instructional technologies, designing new courses, revising existing courses and materials, and providing training and development related to instructional design principles and quality standards for online and hybrid/blended courses. The role also manages multiple projects, assesses and mitigates risk, reports progress, and communicates with stakeholders to promote collaboration and accountability. Responsibilities
Analyzes learner and faculty needs, designs and develops interventions, and recommends instructional strategies and technologies to facilitate learning outcomes. Designs and develops learning content, eLearning objects, and complete courses for fully online and/or hybrid delivery using eLearning authoring tools. Works with faculty and CTLE staff to promote effective teaching strategies, determine appropriate uses of learning technologies in courses, and assist with planning and coordinating course materials. Designs, plans, develops, and facilitates professional development sessions (virtual and in-person) on instructional design, Canvas LMS, instructional technologies, and learning theories. Creates training and support materials for faculty as needed. Collaborates with the OSU-OKC accessibility team and CTLE staff to facilitate workshops on accessibility practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Analyzes and evaluates OSU-OKC courses and curricular offerings, and ensures online and hybrid courses meet established quality standards. Articulates scope, risks, progress, and milestones of assigned instructional design projects via project plans, scope documents, and reports. Participates in the development of policies and procedures for online course quality design and delivery. Completes mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development activities each year. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Learning Technologies, Educational Psychology, Education, or related field (degree conferred on or before start date). Minimum Qualifications
Three years or more experience teaching (as instructor of record) in a higher education environment. Two years or more experience performing instructional design services in a higher education/academic environment, including designing and developing learning content, courses, and resources focused on active learning and effective teaching practices. Two years or more experience with online learning technologies and LMSs (Canvas, Desire2Learn/Brightspace, Blackboard, etc.). Experience providing training workshops or sessions for higher education faculty and/or staff on instructional design principles and instructional technologies. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles (ADDIE, Backward Design, SAM, etc.) and adult learning theories; active learning and student engagement strategies. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of LMS features (Canvas, D2L/Brightspace, Blackboard, Moodle) and media tools (YuJa, Panopto, Zoom, YouTube, Camtasia). Well-versed in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility and ADA-compliance; WCAG 2.2 guidelines. Up-to-date knowledge of teaching, learning, and instructional technology trends and best practices. Strong eLearning authoring skills (Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, iSpring Suite, Lectora Inspire, etc.). Strong web design skills (HTML5, CSS) and ability to create multimedia assets (Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, SnagIt, Office 365). Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively. Strong problem-solving, multi-tasking, and deadline management abilities. Advanced planning, organizing, and self-management skills. Ability to work with faculty on designing, developing, and maintaining online and hybrid courses. Ability to integrate current educational technologies to improve learning experiences. Ability to relate well with faculty, adjunct instructors, and staff. Commitment to customer service and representing OSU-OKC and OSU positively and professionally. Demonstrated ethical and professional behavior. Preferred Qualifications
Quality Matters-certified Peer Reviewer, Master Reviewer, or other QM certification. Experience teaching fully online and/or blended/hybrid courses in higher education. Familiarity with TurnItIn, online proctoring solutions, and other academic integrity tools. Experience with online learning tools, content development tools, and new media applications. Familiarity with video conferencing and interactive media tools. Working Conditions
Flexible hours to include some nights and weekends. Office environment with significant public contact, in-person and virtual communication, and varied workshop sizes. Occasional travel may be required. Organization
