Apply for the Transportation Engineering Associate I position at the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Job Responsibilities
Assist the Resident Construction Engineer in coordinating inspection activities on contractor work.
Monitor construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and standards.
Assist project engineers with project management duties, including preparing monthly and final estimates.
Respond to inquiries from the public and review encroachment permit applications.
Perform project closeout duties and inspection duties as needed.
Monitor QA/QC, traffic control, and erosion control.
Conduct senior‑level inspection work on all phases of highway construction projects.
Perform surveying duties and train less experienced employees in inspection and surveying techniques.
Review sampling requirements and test results to ensure adequate sampling for materials.
Collect samples of materials for laboratory testing.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved equivalent.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Ability to travel as required.
Physical demands: prolonged sitting or standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling.
Requirement to drive and walk extensively, work in close proximity to traffic, and handle natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside normal hours, during inclement weather, and during emergencies.
Potential exposure to outdoor environment in all weather and noise conditions.
Additional Comments May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
