What You’ll Bring to Spectrum News
Required Qualifications
Experience: 2+ years forecasting and presenting weathercasts; working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology
Technical Skills: Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar
Skills: Ability to anticipate situations, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
Abilities: Demonstrate enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news
Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
Schedule: Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to breaking news and severe weather emergencies; willing and able to work weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
National Weather Association (NWA) and/or AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal
Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and basic non‑linear editing systems
May be required to lift up to five pounds
Working Conditions
Works inside a climate‑controlled environment all year but may be assigned to field duties as necessary
Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi‑noisy environment
Communicates in person, by phone, and by email
Materials and equipment used: various studio, weather forecasting, and newsgathering television equipment, computers, and computer‑related equipment
