Broadcast Associate, Washington Assignment Desk, CBS News

Join CBS News and Stations as a Broadcast Associate (BA) at the Washington Assignment Desk. The BA will support the team with research and administrative duties throughout the week, and will play a key role in delivering news related to Washington politics and policy. The candidate must have a strong interest in Washington politics and policy.

Qualifications

  • Internship or comparable experience working in broadcast, cable or digital news is a plus
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills a must.
  • The ideal candidate is a team player, detail-oriented, and can effectively multi-task
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and keep a calm head under pressure.
  • The ability to think and act proactively is an enormous asset
  • Knowledge of broadcast networks and stations/markets a plus.
  • Bachelor’s in journalism or related discipline, with strong editorial skills and judgement preferred
  • Available to work various schedules.
  • An interest in Washington politics and policy, as well as a strong understanding of the three branches of government is a must
  • Solid knowledge of social media platforms and how to craft language for professional news posts

Responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required. You must be able to adjust to breaking news quickly
  • This position requires very strong social media skills, including proficiency with social media platforms which include, but are not limited to - Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Additional duties include working with newsroom team, such as Assignment Editors, Producers and Associate Producers to gather news elements and research for breaking news, on‑air packages and digital stories.
  • The ideal candidate is a team player with exceptional organizational skills, is detail-oriented, and can both multi‑task and work well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Serves as extensive researcher on a variety of topics
  • Duties include disseminating editorial notes to the news division, so candidate must have excellent spelling and grammar skills
  • Will be asked to make calls during breaking news stories and fact‑check, so extreme attention to detail is required

Work Schedule

Full‑time, in person at the DC bureau. Current schedule is Sunday–Thursday, but may change to Tuesday–Saturday.

Hiring Salary Range

$50,000.00 – $50,000.00
