Job Title: Adjunct Instructor, Communication Studies

Reporting Structure: Chair of the Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, & Dance

Division: College of Arts & Humanities

Job Summary: This is a temporary part‑time teaching position in the Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, & Dance. Teaching opportunities during the summer may be available depending on enrollment but are not guaranteed. The department offers courses in Communication Studies-General, Communication-Interdisciplinary Studies, and Theater Arts Performance. The Adjunct Instructor is expected to commit to an inclusive working environment, participate actively in departmental collaboration, and provide quality instruction for the Basic General Education course and other Communication Studies courses.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in communication studies and basic general education.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, presentations, and assignments in collaboration with other faculty.
  • Deliver student‑centered learning through the effective use of the learning management system (Canvas).
  • Administer and grade formative and summative assessments, and provide feedback.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for students.
  • Support college and departmental activities and services with a spirit of leadership, commitment, accountability, and collegiality.
  • Adhere to institutional policies.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • At least two (2) years of professional teaching experience.
  • Engage students beyond the classroom and demonstrate an active commitment to the life of the university.
  • Adjunct Instructors are not eligible for tenure.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Communication Studies, Speech, or a related field from a nationally accredited institution.
  • Comparable professional experience and potential to become an excellent teacher and student mentor.

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education

  • Experience teaching historically disadvantaged populations.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Prepared to teach a variety of communication courses, including day and evening classes.
  • Willingness to participate in university‑wide committee assignments.

Physical Requirements

Standing, seating, and movement during teaching, learning, and advising in the classroom and office setting.
