Position Summary

The Main Library Manager oversees and leads the operations and staff in the Main Library Departments and Main Library projects and initiatives.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hires, supervises, directs, coaches, trains, mentors, and manages performance of employees to organizational goals and expectations.
  • Adds value as a key member of management; understands the organization, financials, industry, customers, and strategy.
  • Manages assigned budgets and resources effectively and efficiently; knows and understands organization’s financial position.
  • Manages vendors and outside service providers effectively; sets expectations and holds them accountable, as required.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports through ongoing monthly mission-focused discussions, effective and timely coaching, setting of annual objectives, and annual performance reviews.
  • Provides input, feedback and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team regarding public service, enhancements to services and relevant Main Library service aspects of policies and procedures.
  • Leads and oversees building services to provide operational oversight and collaboration with Library leaders, including planning and conducting programs, Makerspace services, and outreach to community partners.
  • Plans staffing model and workflow for effective public service.
  • Assists customers with reference, reader’s advisory, Makerspace and various technologies at Main Library Service points.
  • Communicates and interprets the Library’s policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner.
  • Addresses and resolves customer issues and concerns.
  • Coordinates and implements emergency preparedness plans when required and as indicated in collaboration with designated institutional colleagues.
  • Establishes priorities for collection maintenance.
  • Monitors physical location and initiates maintenance and repairs, as necessary.
  • Takes an active role and models leadership in the implementation of systemwide initiatives and projects.
  • Supports and advances the Library’s mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information.
  • Embraces and embodies the Library’s core beliefs, strategic priorities, and pillars of excellence.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of library science and administration.
  • Knowledge of customer interests related to library materials, programs, and services.
  • Knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Skill in customer service.
  • Skill in project management.
  • Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster open, productive collaboration among multiple leaders and teams to achieve shared organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or relevant discipline or completion of the Community Leadership Certification Program or eight years of progressive leadership experience in our organization is required.
  • Certifications or licensure: A driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Library’s insurance provider are required.
  • Years of relevant experience: Five or more years is required.
  • Years of experience supervising: Three or more years is required.

Hours

40 hours per week

Salary

Grade 11: $77,188.80 - $115,793.60 annual
