UCI Health is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine and the only academic health system based in Orange County. It comprises the UCI Medical Center, four hospitals, affiliated physician practices, and ambulatory care centers across the region. The UCI Medical Center is a 459‑bed acute care hospital that provides tertiary and quaternary care, a National Cancer Institute–designated comprehensive cancer center, high‑risk perinatal/neonatal program, Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center, and a regional burn center.

Position Summary Incumbent is responsible for obtaining all necessary authorizations in accordance with established guidelines: verifies eligibility, obtains benefit information, and generates letters for authorizations. The role also responds to Member Services and Call Center inquiries, resolves authorization issues, and communicates with external physicians and insurers.

Responsibilities

Obtain all required authorizations for patient services.

Verify eligibility and benefit information for patients.

Generate and distribute authorization letters.

Respond to inquiries from Member Services and the Call Center.

Resolve identified authorization issues in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system.

Must possess essential skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned duties.

General understanding of medical terminology.

Customer service skills appropriate to the role.

Ability to travel to off‑site physician practices.

Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing.

General knowledge of ICD‑9 and CPT codes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Demonstrated experience using MS Office.

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Ability to maintain an appropriate work pace.

Interpretation and understanding of various medical insurance plans for accurate coverage determinations.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures, and forms.

Familiarity with Joint Commission standards.

Experience with Epic.

Demonstrated experience with authorization process and surgical scheduling.

Bilingual skill in Spanish, Vietnamese, or Chinese.
