12 Months Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of University Marketing, the Social Media Marketing Specialist serves as the primary manager of UNC Asheville's social media presence and plays a key role in elevating the University's voice, visibility, and brand across digital platforms. This position develops and executes strategic social media campaigns that support enrollment goals, student engagement, alumni relations, institutional storytelling, and brand awareness. The Social Media Marketing Specialist will create compelling photo, video, and written content that captures the vibrancy, creativity, and distinctiveness of the UNC Asheville student experience. A highly collaborative and creative professional, this individual will work closely with students (including student ambassadors and content creators), faculty, staff, and campus partners to source stories, produce engaging digital content, and cultivate a dynamic online community. This role requires strong interpersonal communication skills, a keen understanding of digital trends, experience managing advertising campaigns through Meta and Google platforms, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a fast-paced, strategic marketing team. Minimum Education/Experience/Skill

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred Education/Experience/Skill

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, or a field in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in social media management, digital marketing, content creation, or related roles. Demonstrated experience managing an established brand's social media channels across multiple platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Experience using the latest AI tools and resources to amplify and enhance brand reach in the social media sphere. Proficiency in photography and videography, including editing for short-form content (e.g., Reels, TikTok, Stories). Experience developing and optimizing advertising and promotional campaigns on Meta Business Suite and Google Ads. Strong copywriting and editing skills across digital audiences and formats. Ability to analyze and interpret social media performance metrics to inform strategy and provide actionable next steps to quickly capitalize on trends. Skilled in Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Illustrator, etc.). Ability to collaborate in a team environment with departments across campus and in the community. Self-directed, results-driven, highly creative, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines. Experience working with student content creators or peers in mentoring or leadership capacities, including conducting interviews. Higher Education experience.
