Georgetown University, Washington, District of Columbia, us, 20022
Clinical Teaching Fellow – Communications & Technology Law Clinic
Georgetown University: Law Center
Location: Georgetown Law Clinics
Open Date: Nov 13, 2025
Description The Communications & Technology Law Clinic at Georgetown Law invites applications for a two‑year paid Clinical Teaching Fellow starting in July or August 2026. The person hired will work closely with Professor Laura Moy to supervise second‑ and third‑year JD students working at the intersection of justice and technology law/policy. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting December 5; we encourage early applications for priority consideration, as we intend to begin interviews over winter break.
Fellow Responsibilities and Training The Clinic has two full‑time Teaching Fellows. Fellows exercise a great deal of responsibility for the clinic’s cases, advocating on behalf of nonprofit organizations and individuals seeking to advance justice through client counseling and advocacy involving technology law. They assist Professor Moy in all aspects of the clinic’s work with clients and coalitions: developing strategy, meeting with policymakers and their staff, and drafting a variety of documents. Because we are located in the heart of Washington, D.C., a short distance from the Capitol building, Fellows experience the interplay between Congress, agencies, courts, and public‑interest advocates in developing technology policy. They also have many opportunities to network with others working in this area.
In partnership with the other Fellow (who will be in his/her second year when the incoming Fellow starts), Fellows are the primary supervisors for the clinic’s students each semester and assist students in developing their law‑yering skills. Examples include checking in weekly, answering research questions, reviewing drafts, and preparing students for meetings and oral presentations. Fellows also assist with planning and teaching the clinic seminar, which meets twice weekly.
Fellows receive excellent training in clinical teaching. Georgetown Law’s 18‑clinic program offers an orientation in August and a Clinical Pedagogy course that meets throughout the first year of the Fellowship. Upon completion, Fellows receive an LL.M. degree in Advocacy.
Stipend & Benefits Fellowships in this and all Georgetown Law clinics pay $70,000 for the first year and $75,000 for the second year; salary is not negotiable. Fellows receive group health insurance (including dental and vision) and benefit from affiliations with Georgetown Law’s Institute for Technology Law & Policy, the Tech & Society initiative, and the broader Georgetown community. Fellows have their own office in a recently renovated space shared between the two tech clinics, and access to a state‑of‑the‑art fitness center on campus.
The Fellowship provides an excellent entry into technology law, public‑interest practice, and academia. Alumni typically secure full‑time teaching or advocacy positions at the FCC, FTC, EPI, EFF, Free Press, Knight First Amendment Institute, NHC, OAIT, Public Knowledge, law firms, and other law schools.
Qualifications Applicants should have a law degree and be admitted to the District of Columbia or another state bar. Very strong candidates who will graduate in 2026 and be eligible to join the bar shortly thereafter are also considered. Qualifications we look for include:
Demonstrated interest in justice
Demonstrated interest in technology, communications, privacy, or surveillance (no technical expertise necessary)
Practical experience in a law‑school clinic, a public‑interest organization, government, a law firm, or a judicial clerkship
Strong analytical and communication skills, oral and written
Experience or interest in management and supervision
Experience or interest in teaching law students in a clinical setting
A commitment to pursuing a career in clinical teaching or the public interest
Application Instructions Please upload all required documents via the Interfolio portal: resume, law school transcript, essay, and at least one writing sample. Unofficial transcripts are accepted; an official copy will be required before the fellowship begins.
In lieu of a traditional cover letter, the essay should address the following specific questions (all 150‑word limit):
What, in particular, interests you about working at the Communications & Technology Law Clinic?
What skills, interests, or experiences make you a good fit for this position?
How would this position advance your educational or career interests?
Describe an issue at the intersection of law and technology that interests you. (Optional)
Is there anything else you would like us to know about your application? (Optional)
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting December 5; we encourage early applications for priority consideration, as we intend to begin interviews over winter break. Please direct questions about this announcement to clinic administrator Edwin Rodas, ear101@law.georgetown.edu. No phone calls, please.
