The Clinical Innovation team is an ambitious group of scientists, engineers, data scientists, and product developers that develop solutions to advance evidence generation, interpretation and utilization. This team is now looking for a strong leader who can drive the development of core capabilities toward a new approach that considers, measures and interprets all elements contributing to a personalized outcome.
Key Responsibilities
Define objectives and develop study design scenarios to support novel non‑interventional and interventional studies, applying methodology and analytical skills to deliver conclusive answers.
Create data‑driven rationale packages to support internal and external decision making, including health‑authority‑facing materials.
Collaborate with clinical science and data science to leverage cross‑innovation solutions and maximize the approach within and outside Clinical Innovation.
Build and maintain strong functional and cross‑functional relationships with Therapeutic Areas, Discovery Sciences, Translational Sciences and others to spur synergies and produce meaningful solutions spanning early translation through late‑development studies.
Stay abreast of emerging biostatistical, scientific and technological trends that support novel study design.
Represent Clinical Innovation in forums designed to align decision‑making on the best approach to gain institutional knowledge, balancing thoroughness and agility.
Qualifications
MD or PhD in Biological Sciences with 7+ years of clinical and experimental design experience (Director I). For Director II: MD or PhD in Biological Sciences with 10+ years in clinical and experimental design and 5+ years in leadership.
Ability to build novel experimental designs that drive business impact, influence agencies, and answer key questions.
Highly collaborative, thrives in a team environment to advance AbbVie’s mission.
Proven research background with a track record of translating foundational work into completed projects.
Creative problem‑solving for complex challenges.
Strong project‑management skills with ability to manage multiple projects across a complex matrixed organization.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of preparing presentations that influence all organizational levels.
Commercial, entrepreneurial, and innovative mindset comfortable with ambiguity. Ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives to ensure balanced risk assessments.
Additional Information The role is based onsite in Irvine, CA. Compensation is a competitive base salary of $177,000–$336,000 annually, plus benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and participation in short‑ and long‑term incentive programs.
