NSB Omega is searching for a Piping Designer for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Ferndale, MI.
Assignment Description The Piping Designer will be responsible for creating detailed piping layouts and isometric drawings for refinery and processing facility projects. This position works closely with piping engineers, mechanical designers, and project teams to ensure designs are safe, efficient, and compliant with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop 2D and 3D piping designs, models, and drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D, MicroStation, or SmartPlant 3D.
Prepare piping general arrangements, isometrics, and support drawings.
Incorporate process, mechanical, and structural inputs into piping layouts.
Ensure designs comply with P&IDs, design standards, and project specifications.
Perform field walkdowns, collect as-built data, and update drawings accordingly.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, civil, and electrical).
Review vendor drawings and integrate relevant data into the design model.
Support material take-offs (MTOs) and work package preparation for construction.
Qualifications Required:
Associate’s degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Must reside & be able to legally work in the US.
5+ years of piping design experience in refinery, petrochemical, or oil & gas projects.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, MicroStation, or SmartPlant 3D (S3D).
Strong understanding of ASME B31.3 and refinery piping design standards.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy.
Preferred:
Experience with 3D model coordination and clash detection (e.g., Navisworks).
Familiarity with PDS, CADWorx, or other plant design tools.
Previous experience supporting EPC or refinery capital projects.
