Performs, accesses, analyzes and scores sleep polysomnographic studies under the direction of the manager of the sleep center. Act as a supportive team member with initiative and a focus on department efficiency and technical excellence. Develop specifications for changes and project plans for improvement in department workflow. Work effectively with a diverse group of people and oversee students and ancillary personnel. Care for a patient population that includes all age groups and respond appropriately to age-specific needs. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Essential Functions
Under the general supervision of the Department Director, performs a wide variety of polysomnographic studies in the laboratory. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, families, laboratory staff, physicians, and other hospital staff. Explains the test procedure to the patient. Administers patient questionnaire to obtain an accurate and complete history. Applies electrodes with acceptable impedance levels and applies appropriate transducers to monitor respiratory effort, airflow, and oxygen saturation. Calibrates, evaluates, and adjusts the instrumentation; monitors the patient throughout the night for abnormalities in cardiac rhythm and respiration. Contacts a staff physician when indicated; attends to the personal needs of the patient throughout the night. Administers oxygen and nasal CPAP and BIPAP as directed by the staff physician. Removes electrodes and cleans the patient as needed. Qualifications
