The Designer I is responsible for planning, creating, and coordinating design projects that meet both internal and external customer needs. This role involves hands-on design work using CAD software, conducting site visits, preparing documentation, and supporting engineering and project management teams through each project phase. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and skilled in both design tools and field coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Project Manager and Customer Service Advocate, coordinating communication between customers, contractors, and internal departments.
- Conduct site visits to gather project data, assess conditions, and verify information for design accuracy.
- Create, update, and revise sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software or manual drafting methods to meet customer requirements.
- Prepare 2D and 3D models, ensuring designs align with engineering standards and specifications.
- Read and comprehend detailed customer requirements, data sheets, and supplier specifications to translate them into accurate design deliverables.
- Complete assignments utilizing input from project engineering, architectural, or technical services staff under the guidance of a supervisor.
- Demonstrate familiarity with drafting techniques, engineering concepts, and technical terminology.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to produce precise and compliant design documents.
- Prepare supporting documentation, including bills of materials, schedules, and transmittals, to accompany design drawings.
- Assist engineering and construction personnel with drawing updates, documentation, and issue resolution during the construction process.
- Manage multiple design projects concurrently, ensuring timelines, quality, and compliance standards are met.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license (required for site visits).
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Technology savvy with the ability to quickly learn and use new software systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical and engineering documentation.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GIS and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar).
- Knowledge of project management principles.
- Familiarity with power utility, engineering, or construction design environments.
