Summary

The role is responsible for growing and cultivating audience through on-air interviews and promotion, overseeing the Community Voices project, producing and hosting a daily program, and enhancing broadcast and digital audience growth.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Host, research, conduct multiple interviews on‑site and remotely, and deliver NPR‑quality features on deadline.
  • Moderate speaking events, handle live interviews, and respond to evolving topics, including special events and pre‑emptions.
  • Manage the station’s digital presence for Community Voices by creating and editing story posts on website, social media, podcasts, and other channels; develop graphics to support postings.
  • Assist Audience Development Manager in planning, producing, and executing engagement and training events.
  • Build a “people‑to‑know” database, develop long‑range coverage plans, and produce audio/video and written content for on‑air and online use.
  • Ensure interviews comply with applicable laws and FCC regulations; complete necessary paperwork and budget assistance as assigned.
  • Train and supervise hosts, producers, interns, and student workers, setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Aggregate interviews into a daily sixty‑minute program and supervise editing of interviews and promos around the clock.
  • Participate in station fundraising and engagement activities; represent the station at professional workshops and conferences.
  • Promote daily program guests in broadcast promos and e‑newsletters.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (36) months of progressive radio/television program production and presentation, social media, or journalism experience, or equivalent vocational training.
  • College coursework totaling at least 90 semester hours (two years) in related fields, or a Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least one year of work experience in production and presentation comparable to the Media Writer/Producer/Announcer I level.

  • Keen judgment and independent decision‑making.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple assignments.
  • Proficiency in editing and producing audio story segments.
  • Proficiency in operating broadcast equipment with emphasis on audio and digital production.
  • Ability to meet daily deadlines delivering audio and digital stories simultaneously.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision while responsive to direction.
  • Effective communication with sources and experts.
  • Familiarity with public media journalism.
  • Teamwork and thorough knowledge of computer systems in a media environment.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle.
  • Frequently sit, talk, hear, and feel; rarely balance, taste, or perform repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

  • Noise: Frequently; other environmental conditions rarely or occasionally.

Travel Requirements

10% travel to events and meetings.
