Job Purpose

Burlington City Arts is seeking dynamic, professional and experienced Teaching Artists with expertise in studio arts, gallery learning, and/or arts integration to lead educational programming for adults, youth, and school and community groups. Notable considerations for candidates with experience and expertise in multiple artistic disciplines and in arts education settings.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with BCA Staff to lead adult and/or youth group classes and camps at the BCA Studios at 405 Pine Street, BCA Center at 135 Church Street, and at off-site residency sites including schools and community organizations.
  • Create quality lesson plans and supply lists within budgetary restrictions.
  • Provide an outstanding arts experience for customers.
  • Set up and clean up studio spaces before and after classes, attend, and complete some student paperwork.

Qualifications / Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts and work effectively across diverse cultures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in Arts Education or Fine Arts preferred.
  • At least one year of teaching experience with adults and/or youth.
  • Customer Service experience preferred.
  • Understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
  • Professionally represent the City of Burlington and the City Arts Department in all dealings with community members.
  • Must be able to lift tables, chairs, easels, and other studio equipment and supplies.
  • Desire to work with students and ability to communicate in a clear and helpful manner with BCA staff, teachers, and parents.
  • High enthusiasm, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Cooperative and team-player attitude.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to a changing schedule.
